Set at the tail end of the ninth Interval, FrostFire is within a very few turns of the upcoming Pass, and by all the signs it will be a bad one. The geological upheavals that dog every Pass have been especially traumatic for the people of Pern - beginning with the immense and unexpected volcanic eruption of the once-dormant Ista Weyr, and more recently with the destruction by earthquake of High Reaches. Dragonriders have been left adrift, and there are no longer enough Weyrs ready to cover the territory left abandoned by the destruction.
So to salvage what they can, the Weyr Council and Holder's Conclave convened, and decided that the founding of a new Weyr was necessary, and it happened to have an appropriate (although by no means desirable) location. In an inhospitable area of the Northern Barrier Range, a Weyr created in Ancient times but abandoned for unknown reasons (plenty of sarcastic rumors suggest the weather and isolation, among other things), nevertheless rests in territory the knowledgeable of Pern say is absolutely stable, neither in a volcano nor along any geological fault. It's not inhabitable yet, but neither will it take immense amounts of stone-breakage to make it so - most of the tunnel infrastructure and the all-important heating necessities for the Hatching Sands are already in place.
So the gathering has begun, with refugees from both destroyed Weyrs (what remains of the Istans who haven't settled in to stay elsewhere, and a great many from High Reaches) staking camp at High Reaches Hold, which has graciously (if with some strain) offered their nearby open land for the purpose. And there they stay for now, until the caravan to the soon-to-be Starmount Weyr begins.
Much of our rebuilding is complete, with the majority of code reinstalled and the beginnings of the grid in place. As we are moving heavily toward a player-driven system, there is new code depending on the players for the descing and planning of the rooms. Drop by and see our toys!
Meanwhile, the website is still quite out of date, as the game proper has been at the tip-top of the required-first list. I'm getting there!
